CEDHA works to address socio-environmental conflicts caused by climate change, training legal professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean. This includes developing climate litigation strategies and crafting financing proposals to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs).
2. Contamination in the Salí Dulce Basin
CEDHA has filed a case before the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina related to the contamination of the Salí Dulce Basin, holding the Azucarera Concepción S.A. Company and other actors responsible. The situation continues to be monitored, and they seek to be recognized as interested third parties to claim the damage caused by industrial pollution.
3. Suquía River
A ruling by the Civil and Commercial Court of Córdoba held the municipality and the province responsible for the contamination of the Suquía River, derived from the malfunction of the waste treatment plant. This case was promoted by CEDHA and other affected neighbors, highlighting the importance of environmental law in the defense of the rights of riverside communities.
4. Contamination of Pulp Mills in the Uruguay River
CEDHA has played a key role in the conflict over the installation of pulp mills between Argentina and Uruguay, promoting the defense of the affected communities. This case has led to complaints being filed with multiple international bodies, including the International Court of Justice.
5. Amicus Curiae
CEDHA has intervened as Amicus Curiae in several relevant cases, advocating for access to information and environmental protection. Examples include advocacy for indigenous communities and proposals for legislation on mining and agriculture. These efforts underscore CECHA's commitment to advancing environmental justice and defending human rights in the face of the challenges posed by climate change and the exploitation of natural resources.
