CEDHA and Jujuy Explore Just Energy Transition Project

Juan Picolotti and Jujuy’s Governor, Carlos Sadir, discussed the possibility of developing a joint project to enhance the value chain of camelids in the region.

The Center for Human Rights and Environment (CEDHA), represented by its Executive Director Juan Miguel Picolotti and advisor Leonardo Mangoldt, recently met with the Governor of Jujuy, Carlos Sadir. The meeting aimed to present CEDHA’s program (a non-profit, non-governmental organization working to build a more harmonious relationship between the environment and people), which focuses on a just energy transition and the sustainable extraction of lithium, highlighting its potential benefits for local communities. The parties also discussed the possibility of developing a joint project with the province.

During the meeting, progress was made on a proposal to sign an agreement with Jujuy’s Ministry of Production to improve the camelid value chain in the region. The agreement aims to raise the quality of wool and yarn produced in the province, benefiting weavers and local producers who live near lithium extraction areas.

The initiative seeks to strengthen native livelihoods and enable the commercialization of locally crafted products such as ponchos, pullovers, and scarves.

CEDHA expressed its gratitude to Governor Carlos Sadir and the Ministry of Economic Development and Production for their willingness to move forward together. The organization emphasized that this joint effort aims to strengthen the local economy and improve the quality of life for host communities.
