The agreement establishes a framework for technical collaboration and resource exchange to promote, support, and protect the province's agricultural wealth and renewable natural and mineral resources.
The Government of Jujuy—through the Ministry of Economic Development and Production—and the Center for Human Rights and Environment (CEDHA) have signed an agreement aimed at promoting a just energy transition, leveraging the best available technologies and fostering social inclusion in the critical minerals value chain, such as lithium. This initiative seeks to ensure that the development of these resources not only generates economic benefits for the involved parties but also contributes to a more equitable and sustainable society.
The agreement also aims to establish the pillars and terms necessary to create an institutional framework for cooperation, enabling the implementation of technical collaboration mechanisms and the exchange of resources to support sustainable development.
The Minister of Economic Development and Production of Jujuy, Juan Carlos Abud, and the Executive Director of CEDHA, Juan Miguel Picolotti, signed the agreement.
On this occasion, Minister Abud stated, 'This agreement represents a key step in promoting, supporting, and protecting the province’s agricultural wealth and renewable natural and mineral resources.' He added, 'Through this collaboration, the government reinforces its commitment to the revitalization of family farming, the promotion of cooperatives, and the development of policies for the rational and sustainable use of natural resources.'
The Jujuy official emphasized that the agreement also establishes a framework for technical cooperation and resource sharing in areas of mutual interest.
Susteintable Development
The cooperation between the Ministry and CEDHA will focus on the implementation of mechanisms that foster sustainability, development of the agricultural sector, and the well-being of rural territories.
In this regard, Picolotti highlighted that 'this partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development and Production is an opportunity to advance shared goals in sustainability and the resilience of rural communities.'
CEDHA, known for its work in promoting equitable and sustainable development, also commits to collaborating in addressing the challenges of the energy transition and the responsible use of lithium as a climate-relevant mineral. 'In this sense, the Foundation works closely with governments, local communities, the private sector, academia, and labor unions to promote sustainable practices and advance a green and just economy,' Picolotti said.
Also present at the signing of the agreement were Patricia Ríos and José Gómez, Secretaries of Productive Development and Mining and Hydrocarbons, respectively; and Leonardo Mangolt, Strategic Advisor to CEDHA.
